Sport plays an integral part of both the formal curriculum and co-curricular programs. Year 7 sport is integrated into the physical education program. Years 8-12 participate in zone and knockout competitions. Students not involved in competition sport will in Year 8 undertake skills based sport at school and in Years 9-11 recreational sport. Many of our students both past and present are outstanding achievers in sport, including Olympians and Australian representatives.
The Grade Sport competition is an interschool sports competition giving students the opportunity to compete in a wide variety of sports against schools in the local area.
At Fort Street, students are lucky enough to compete in two zones. The students in Year 9 – 11 compete in the Northern Suburbs Zone which includes Concord High School, Sydney Secondary College, Burwood Girls High School, Ryde Secondary College, Marsden High School and Hunters Hill High School students.
In Year 8 students can compete in the Northern Suburbs Zone or the Bligh Zone which includes students from Sydney Secondary College Leicharddt and Balmain Campus, Tempe High School, Marrickville High School and Dulwich Hill High School. The grade competition at Fort Street is considered a sporting privilege that students aspire towards.
All students are required to wear their PDHPE polo shirt, shorts and appropriate footwear to Grade Sport. For some sports, safety equipment may be required which students will need to provide for themselves. It is recommended a hat, sunscreen and a bottle of water be brought to sport.
For all Grade Sports except water polo students will need to pay $80 each term for sports fees, this will cover their bus trip and ground hire as well as professional umpires for the finals week. For water polo the fee is $130 per term. This is to be paid to the Front Office by Week 3 of each term.
