Robotics

Fort Street High School has a wide range of programs that support student learning and enhance social and personal development. They operate as part of the extended before and after school timetable and are designed to complement the curriculum by enriching the core learning experiences for students. All activities undertaken are listed on student reports.

Robotics

FSHS Robotics is a student run co-curricular activity with the aim of educating our next generation of engineers in the field of robotics by equipping them with a holistic experience of engineering from conception to production in preparation for the Robocup Junior Australia competition (RCJA). As such, we are one of the most successful

Robotics clubs in Australia’s public education system. In Robotics, we construct fully autonomous robots to compete in the following divisions:

  • Rescue Line, where robots navigate an obstacle course to locate and rescue a victim.
  • Rescue Maze, where robots have to find victims indicated by coloured/heated surfaces and drop off rescue packages to locate them and keep them alive.
  • Lightweight and Open Soccer, where teams face off with 2 robots each to score the most goals possible.
  • Dance, where students dance alongside autonomous robots synced to music.A season of robotics begins in Term 4.

No experience is expected, and students are led by a passionate and accomplished crew of senior student mentors who not only pass on all of the relevant knowledge based on their competition experience, but also instill these core values into every participant to ensure they are trained as our next generation of engineers.

  • Students then construct their unique robots using either LEGO Mindstorms kits or Arduino kits with custom design and sensory equipment to compete in the NSW state championships in late August. High achieving students are then given the opportunity to compete in the national championships at the end of Term 3 usually held interstate.
