Debating & Public Speaking

Fort Street High School has a wide range of programs that support student learning and enhance social and personal development. They operate as part of the extended before and after school timetable and are designed to complement the curriculum by enriching the core learning experiences for students. All activities undertaken are listed on student reports.

Debating & Public Speaking

Debating

The school has an excellent record of success in debating and each age group is catered for through inter-school competitions.

We enter competitions including Department of Education: Karl Cramp Year 12, Hume Barbour Year 11, Premiers Debating Challenge Intermediate (Years 9 and 10) and Junior Competitions (Years 7 and 8).

A Coaching Program is available for students in Years 7 to 11. This program runs before and after school. Our coaches cover a range of debating techniques appropriate to the age group. Fees apply for the coaching program. Students in Years 7 to 11 are also offered the opportunity to try their skills at University tournaments. Fees apply to these events.
